This poem and image was put together by my Son, Matthew. Thank you Matt, Its a lovely tribute. Am Can Ch. Clinton Oaks Wizard of Oz bred by Donna Caraig & Rhonda Mink February 2, 2001 ~ May 18th, 2010 Its very hard to write a tribute to a dog that you love. I think every pet owner and breeder knows that after they have had to say good bye to their beloved companion. On May 18, 2010 I too had to say good bye to Marval. He was by far one of the best dogs I have ever had the privilege of spending time with. My only regret is that it I didn't have more with him. Since his retirement from the show ring, which were my most memorable experiences in the dog show world to date, Marv has been my constant companion. Wherever I went, Marval went. He was welcome everywhere. Always the perfect gentleman he joined me on errands and went with us to family holiday dinners. He loved to go with us to our Northern Michigan home and it was there we discovered his natural hunting abilities despite his pampered beginnings as a show dog. Marval was diagnosed with lymphoma in mid April. I chose not to put him through chemotherapy. It was a difficult decision to make, but I know I did the right thing. The second most difficult decision was choosing the right time to relieve him of discomfort. Today was that day. My heart breaks I will miss him so much. Thank you to all of you that were a part of Marval's life and to those of you who took the time out of your day to express your admiration for him a few years back and today to give your condolences. I appreciate your kindness more than you know.
Affectionately known as "Marval" this wonderful dog was a joy from the moment we met at the airport. I consider him my once in a lifetime dog. He finished in a flash...and captured the attention of competitors and spectators alike. Marval's show career was maaarvelous, he finished with all majors from the puppy classes at Specialties, all owner handled which was a great thrill for me! He won multiple Best In Sweepstakes (many back to back) and as an adult multiple BISS wins to his credit, multiple Group Placings in the US & Canada. He was ASCOB BOV Variety ASC Nationals Summer 2003 under the gentle guidance of Bryon Santos and AOM winner at ASC Nationals in 2004 with Danny Dunlap, in addition to the rosettes and trophies, he won many hearts along the way! He is now a spoiled dog in a pet trim, my constant companion... where I go... he follows, sleeps on my bed every night, goes "up north" on vacations, walks on the ground and gets dirty like other dogs, swims in a lake, sits on command, dances and does other stupid pet tricks, he has earned every bit of his retirement! Sire and Grandsire of Champions with more on the way! He is OFA, Eyes Clear 2006, Thyroid Normal. Here are some of my favorite pictures of him. |
